[ he was never good with showing gratitude. usually, he just stalked someone and tried to make sure they were safe.

[ well, well. she's not sure if she should be surprised or not that li—or hei, she supposes—is contacting her. after the red team mission, she's not quite sure of anything about him anymore. she can't blame him for hiding his true powers, or wearing the li mask around her—that's just how the game is played. she can't even blame him for overpowering her—it wasn't that she'd underestimated him. rather, it was that she had nothing much to estimate him by in the first place, and that's a lump she can take.
she can blame him a little for stealing her weapons and dragging her through the dirt, though.
but when kagari found her, frantic for her help as he dragged hei along, there was no question in her mind that she had to heal him, whether it was compassion, duty, or pure pavlovian response to seeing someone hurt. dying. that it was hei didn't matter.
should it matter? she types out her reply with a wry smile pulling at the corner of her mouth. ]
[ he could thank her any time, but it's much easier to change the subject. as far as he was concerned, getting even marginally close to a telepath was still the stupidest thing he could ever conceivably do.
but she was, maybe, something close to a "fixture" now that she was on his team, and someone he saw often. even if he tried to avoid really saying much to her. he owed her thanks, but figures he'd repay her instead. how exactly that would occur had yet to be determined by him. ]
[ that wasn't anything close to gratitude. rude. but somehow, she's not too surprised... looks like the hei persona is a little different from the li one. ]
Is this your way of checking in on me?
[ read: making sure no one's tried to kill me lately. again. but she's keeping that bit of information to herself, and she sure as hell isn't going to mention assassination attempts over the network, even in her own inbox. ]
[ it's easier to do unquestioned culling on battlefields, after all. he's got his answer for now: that she's fine. as frustrating as it is to be unable to discuss anything that's actually occurred, he's used to it. ]
[ she's using his real name (or his realer name, maybe—there could be plenty more where that came from) to see how he'll react. there's one surefire way she knows how to communicate where the cdc can't overhear. would he let her in his head? there's no doubt in her mind that he's already read her file; he knows what she can do. ]
